On Tuesday, September 1st, families at West Campus High School received a message from Principal John McMeekin notifying them about the presence of anti-Semitic graffiti that was reported that morning.
Before this, on Friday, August 28th, a similar incident with regard to anti-Semitic graffiti had occurred.
Principal McMeekin described the incident as “…more than an act of vandalism; it is an affront to the inclusive culture that we strive for here at West Campus. We are taking this matter very seriously and will be investigating thoroughly. Hate speech and hate symbols on our campus will not be tolerated.”
McMeekin reported that the graffiti was removed from campus immediately.
In his September 1st statement, McMeekin stated, “This is likely being done by the same student, but we still do not have leads to investigate following the initial incident. We will keep following up on this matter with our students, and we are asking you to do the same at home. This behavior causes harm to our Jewish students, and the reputation of our entire campus unless we condemn it together. This needs to stop. Due to the serious nature of this act, we have reported it to law enforcement as well.”
On August 31st, the message ended with, “As a community, we want to ensure that we are aligned in cultivating and developing the previously mentioned inclusive culture.”
